Texas DB Trent Gordon has Committed to Penn State

Penn State has dipped into Texas for its second defensive back commitment in the 2018 cycle, this time picking up a pledge from Trent Gordon, who plays for one of the top high school programs in the 'Greater Houston' area.

Trent Gordon, a 5-foot-11, 172-pound defensive back from Manvel (Texas) made an early commitment to Penn State picking the Nittany Lions over offers from programs like Cal, Duke, Florida, LSU, Michigan,Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and UCLA.

Gordon fell in love with Penn State on unofficial visit to see the school over his spring break. He made stops in at Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, and West Virginia as well, but it was the campus, atmosphere and coaching staff at Penn State that reeled him in and made him feel like he had found his future home.

He was looking for a school that fit he and his family and he found that fit at Penn State.

"That was a great visit," Gordon recapped. "My parents really enjoyed it, I enjoyed it, my sisters enjoyed it, and my brother enjoyed it. That was a great visit for my family.

We were there from 11-7, that was really good, that was a great visit."

Gordon was impressed by the attention that the coaching staff showed him while on the visit. After making stops in at Columbus and Ann Arbor where the head coaches were not present on campus, it was PSU that rolled out the red carpet.

"As soon as I got to the doors -- no I didn't even pull up first -- coach Terry Smith (defensive recruiting coordinator/cornerbacks) was like waiting for me to open up my door and say what's up Trent," Gordon said, "so that's what happened and then when we walked up t the football facility that is when all of the coaches with coach (James) Franklin being in the  middle shook my hand and asked me how I was doing and took time to get to know me.

They showed me around the whole day. They were not letting me leave until they know who I was and how I was as a person."

Gordon plays for a loaded Manvel High squad in the Houston-area of Texas that produces multiple P5 prospects in every cycle. Gordon feels like he has a unique skill set that has helped him put together an offer list that climbed to over 20 offers.

"I am not afraid to get really physical with people," Gordon said. "I learned that from Derrick Tucker (Texas A&M) the safety that was on the side of me. Tackling is not really going to get you noticed you have to really lay a body on someone is that awe factor on your film, so I started doing that. They like my length and they like that I am smart on the field."

Gordon is a versatile defender who could play cornerback or safety on the next level. Check out his highlights below.
