Jermaine Waller, a cornerback at Gaithersburg (Md.) Avalon, made recent trips to Virginia and Maryland, and he is trying to set visits to Rutgers and Syracuse.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Waller already holds offers from the Cavaliers, Scarlet Knights and Terps. He added Temple and Old Dominion are each in contact with him regularly as well, but he is taking his time with his recruitment.

"I talk to Virginia, Temple, Old Dominion and Syraucse the most," Waller said. "I am still looking at all the schools. don't have any leaders."

Waller is familiar with Virginia, where he was offered during a February junior day visit.

"It is a family there," he said. "It is a comfortable place with the coaches. Everyone gets along and they are working really hard."

Closest to home, though, is Maryland, and the staff made him feel comfortable during a recent trip to campus. He was able to watch a spring practice and got a feel for the changes the Terps are making under second-year coach D.J. Durkin.

"I saw how the coaches and players (interacted) in practice and I was able to see what it was like at practice," Waller said. "They were really getting after it. The intensity was high and it was fast paced."

Wallker holds a Maryland offer, and he knows the staff is pushing hard to keep local players home.

"That is a big deal about playing for your (home) school," Waller said. "The coaches say I could be a part of that."

Rutgers extended an offer to Waller in late February, and his contact is assistant defensive backs coach Henry Baker.

"I am trying to get up there," Waller said. "I talk to coach Baker and he tells me they like me but I don't really know anything about the program. I have to get up there and see it so I know more."
