Scout 100 safety Derrik Allen locked in on Notre Dame

Four-star Merietta (Ga.) Lassiter safety and Notre Dame commit Derrik Allen was one of the top performers at The Opening Atlanta and spoke with Scout.

Notre Dame defensive back commit Derrik Allen shined at The Opening Atlanta.

His efforts earned him an invite to The Opening Finals.

"It just shows that my hard worked paid off," said the 6-foot-2, 206-pound Allen. "I came in with one goal in mind and accomplished that goal."

Allen committed to the Irish last month and multiple factors went into his decision.

"I'm definitely relieved and excited about my future at Notre Dame," Allen said. "Academics are always first with me and Notre Dame offers a great education.

"They also have good facilities and I fit into (defensive coordinator) coach (Mike) Elko's new defense well. I can play every safety and corner position.

"I talk to coach Elko all the time. We just have casual conversation and he tells me to keep working hard. I really like his coaching mentality. He gets the best out of his players."

The Lassiter standout is excited about playing for head coach Brian Kelly.

"I really looking forward to the opportunity," Allen said. "He's got a good program going and I want to do whatever I can to make it better."

Now that he has made his commitment, Allen is done with the recruiting process, and focused on improving before he gets to South Bend.

"I'm 100 percent committed," Allen said. "I'm working to improve in every aspect. There's always room for improvement in everything that you do."
