2019 DT gets "impactful" Spartans offer

East Kentwood (Mich.) sophomore defensive tackle Mazi Smith, a highly recruited prospect already, talks latest offers, upcoming visits, camps and more.

East Kentwood's Mazi Smith is only coming to the end of his sophomore year, but he is already attracting the attention of college coaches with his size (6-3.5, 285 pounds) and explosiveness off the ball.

Recently Louisville and Michigan State offered. He has not visited the Cardinals yet, but will soon, and having grown up in Michigan, has great familiarity with the Spartans, making that offer an important one.

"It really made an impact because I remember watching them every season and to know that they want me to play for them means a lot," Smith said. "They have a great program and are striving for greatness each season."

Smith just finished a visit at Notre Dame and has three more visits planned for the coming week.

"I visit Vanderbilt, Louisville and Alabama Thursday through Saturday."

This summer, Smith has an idea of a couple programs he will look to get in front of for further evaluation.

"I'll be at a Notre Dame camp for sure to get coached up by coach Elston and I'll most likely go to Michigan again."

Smith has additional offers from WisconsinCentral Michigan and Bowling Green.
