The Bulldogs are the first SEC program to offer Smith, who recently hit double-digit offers. Scout caught up with Smith to find out more about his trip to Mississippi State, which he gave high marks.
"I was really excited when I got the Mississippi State offer because there is no better conference than the SEC," Smith said. "Loved (the visit). Mississippi State is a great school and I feel like I can do big things there and get on the field early."
Smith said the coaching staff stood out to him during the visit. Cornebacks coach Terrell Buckley and running backs coach Greg Knox recruit him for the Bulldogs.
"They've been telling me they feel I can do big things for the program," Smith said. "What impressed me the most is how much the coaches showed they wanted me, and the energy at Mississippi State is crazy. All the coaches are always hyped and I love that about the school.
"Mississippi State has moved up into my top school as of right now and I'll definitely be back."
In addition to Mississippi State, Smith owns offers from Oregon State, Colorado State, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Memphis, San Diego State, North Texas, Southern Miss, UAB, Tulane, ULM, and Ball State.
Smith's next plans are to visit LSU later this week. Smith originally planned to visit LSU this past weekend, but once Mississippi State offered, he altered his plans to visit Starkville.
Smith played both sides of the ball as a junior, when he caught 11 passes for 275 yards and five touchdowns, while recording 33 tackles, one tackle for loss, two INT's, and one defensive TD.
Stick with Scout as we continue to monitor Smith's recruitment and development.
