Fast-rising Quarterback Tyler Shough Talks Michigan Offer, Visit to South Carolina

Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton three-star quarterback Tyler Shough talks about his newest offer from Michigan and his recent stop at South Carolina...

It's all coming together for fast-rising prospect Tyler Shough, who's now tasked with sorting through a multitude of possibilities.

The three-star quarterback from Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton visited South Carolina this past weekend and, on Tuesday night, picked up what he described as a "dream offer" from Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

"I grew up a Wolverines fan; my dad was born in Michigan, so it's pretty big for me," Shough told Scout.com. "I was very interested and had been talking to coach Harbaugh for a little bit. We spoke for 20 minutes (Tuesday) and I'm just very excited. It's just awesome.

"I grew up in Michigan gear and I'm a huge Tom Brady fan, so that's an awesome thing to look at. I don't know -- I'm kind of speechless. It's pretty cool to get this because it's been my dream school."

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound prospect is up to 12 scholarship offers and has several other programs in pursuit, recently making stops at Arizona State and Nebraska. Despite being the Wolverines extending the latest offer, Shough said he already has a great feel for the program and that staff's vision for the quarterback spot.

"We talked about NFL aspirations and how interest I was," Shough said. "Coach Harbaugh told me he loved my game and has been following me for a little bit now. I had been talking to coach Pep Hamilton before and coach Harbaugh said that all of his connections are going to become mine, especially as a QB. It's pretty cool to talk to him about that. He was super nice and it was awesome.

"I would say it's pretty high, but I'm still open for everything. I'm not making a decision any time soon and still plan to evaluate all of my options. They're definitely going to be high and I'm looking forward to going through the recruiting process with them and heading out there this summer."

The trip to South Carolina was a unique experience, Shough said, since he was there when the Gamecocks wrapped up their spring practices.

"The weather was great and it was a perfect day for football there," Shough said. "I got out for the spring game and talked to coach (Will) Muschamp for a bit in his office and I got the whole tour of the facilities. It was amazing. I had a film session and a conceptual breakdown of their offense, going through some of their plays with coach (Kurt) Roper, so that was a good hour-and-a-half session.

"I had a private tour and they had a recruiting assistant with me the whole time. We talked for a while and I felt very welcomed there. If I needed something or had any questions, they were there. It was sweet."

Shough doesn't exactly know what's next for his recruitment as he continues to plan out visits.

"It's incredibly humbling and mind-numbing, for sure," Shough said. "It doesn't seem real. ... I'm hoping to make a decision before the season, probably, so we'll see."

Shough completed 62 percent of his pass attempts for 2,079 yards and 27 touchdowns in 12 games as a junior last season.
