Four-star defensive lineman Alfred Thomas on why Georgia leads and more

JOHN'S CREEk, Ga. -- Under Armour 'Big Man Challenge' Atlanta winner Alfred Thomas has an SEC program on top and a decision timetable in mind.

Four-star Montgomery (Ala.) Lanier defensive tackle Alfred Thomas held his own Sunday at the Under Armour All-America football camp in Atlanta, where he took home the 'Big Man Challenge' crown, before releasing his top group of schools that afternoon.

GeorgiaMissouriNorth CarolinaTennesseeOle MissLouisvilleMississippi State and NC State were listed via Twitter, in that specific order.

"Georgia, that's my top one." Thomas said. "They show the most love and show that they care. Other schools do, but it's just Georgia...I don't know why. I'm close to (inside linebackers) coach (Glenn) Schumann and the defensive line coach there, coach (Tray) Scott.

"I've known coach Scott since he was at North Carolina."

The Bulldogs' lead could pay off for Kirby Smart and company in the coming months as the No. 2 defensive tackle in Alabama looks to end the recruiting process.

"It's soon, I'll say this summer or beginning of the next football year," he said.

But Thomas will be a busy prospect before any commitment comes in, with a return trip to Georgia and in-state stops at both Alabama and Auburn in the near future, too. A Tiger offer would vault the semi-local program up his list considerably.

"They have to show me that want me bad and I will consider them," he said."

The rising senior has yet to visit many of the programs listed within his top eight and would like to see each of them before a final decision, if possible.
