3-Star Cornerback Eddie Smith Previews Visit to LSU

Eddie Smith, a big-framed, three-star cornerback from the New Orleans area, will visit LSU on Thursday.

Eddie Smith recently hit double-digit offers and picked up his first SEC offer from Mississippi State. That prompted a visit this past weekend to Starkville, which left Smith impressed with the Bulldogs.

Next for the 6-foot, 172-pound cornerback is Thursday's visit to LSU.

Smith visited LSU for the "Boys from the Boot" junior day event in February. That visit -- combined with the fact that Smith plays for Salmen High School in Slidell, just outside of New Orleans -- has him already familiar with the Tigers.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how the new coaching staff works together," Smith said, "and how the DB's compete against the offense."

Smith said the campus stood out to him during his previous visit for the junior day event.

"I fell in love with the campus while I was there," Smith said. "I liked how much love the coaches showed during the visit."

As a junior this past fall, Smith played both sides of the ball for Salmen High. On offense, Smith caught 11 passes for 275 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 33 tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.

College programs want Smith at cornerback, for the most part, though he does possess the frame to potentially move around the secondary at the next level. Smith said he's heard from head coach Ed Orgeron, defensive backs coach Corey Raymond, and new offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

"They love me for the corner position due to my size," Smith said, "but they didn't talk about an offer yet."

Smith certainly is not short on offers at the moment.

Mississippi State offered a week ago to give Smith 13 total offers, including two Power Five conference offers, along with Oregon State. Schools such as Louisiana Tech, Memphis, San Diego State, Southern Miss, and several others have offered Smith, who should see plenty more attention during the upcoming spring evaluation period.

Smith added that Oregon State and Memphis are two programs he wants to visit this offseason.
