3-Star Offensive Tackle Jake Syptak Previews UCLA Visit

Jake Syptak, a top-10 offensive tackle in the state of Texas' 2018 class, previews his weekend trip to UCLA.

Eight FBS programs have offered 2018 offensive tackle Jake Syptak, a 6-foot-5, 264-pounder from Texas Class 6A power The Woodlands High School near Houston.

Syptak, who also holds offers from seven of the Ivy League's eight institutions, will visit UCLA this weekend. Syptak plans to hit the campus Saturday.

"I know that the campus is located in a beautiful part of the city," Syptak said, "and it's a great school academically. I also know that they have produced a lot of NFL talent in the past few years and really know how to develop players."

In addition to those factors, Syptak said geography influenced his decision to make the trip to the West Coast.

"The area of the country that UCLA is located really helped me decide on visiting there," he said. "Southern California is a beautiful place to be and it'd be sweet to have the opportunity to play there."

Offensive line coach Hank Fraley recruits Syptak for the Bruins.

"He was the one who invited me out," Syptak said. "I'm hoping to see how the coaches coach and their styles of football while I'm at their spring practice Saturday."

As a junior this past fall, Syptak started at right tackle for a The Woodlands squad that finished 15-1. The Highlanders lone loss came to Austin Lake Travis in the Texas Class 6A Division I state championship at AT&T Stadium.

The majority of schools recruiting Syptak want him as a tackle, which makes sense given his frame and playing experience. Bowling Green, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Texas State, UTSA, and Army have offered Syptak, in addition to the aforementioned Ivy League programs. He's also attended junior day events at Baylor and Texas.

Syptak should enjoy plenty of attention the upcoming spring evaluation period, which runs from mid-April through the end of May. Check back with Scout and BruinReportOnline.com for Syptak's post-visit thoughts.
