Versatile Defender DaShaun White Talks Recent UCLA Offer

DaShaun White, one of the top outside linebacker prospects in the state of Texas, breaks down his recent offer from UCLA, which he visited in mid-March.

DaShaun White has emerged this offseason as one of the more sought-after defensive prospects in the state of Texas' 2018 class.

The versatile 6-foot-1, 203-pounder holds a dozen offers, including five from Power Five conference programs. He visited UCLA on March 16 and got an offer from the Bruins nine days later. In addition to UCLA, White owns offers from Ole Miss, TCU, Texas A&M, Houston, Indiana, and several others.

White, who plays for Richland High School just outside of Fort Worth, Texas, fits the role of an outside linebacker/safety hybrid in today's defensive schemes built to combat spread offenses. White said the atmosphere stood out during his trip to UCLA.

"On my visit I found out a little about it," White said. "Loved the atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful cities and the campus itself is beautiful as well. It was good talking to some of the players while I was there, too."

White said he's developed relationships with linebackers coach Scott White and scouting analyst Cory Nicol.

"Coach White and I have the best relationship I have with any other coach except one from Oklahoma State, but he's a grad assistant," White said. "Coach White offered me. He says I'm one of their defense's top targets.

"He thinks I can fall behind the 'Linebacker U' of linebackers there in the last few years. He likes my speed and thinks the stunts and schemes they use would work perfectly for me."

Scout ranks White as the No. 4 outside linebacker in Texas for 2018, as well as No. 31 nationally at his position. White ran a laser-timed 4.75-second 40 at The Opening Dallas regional camp in early March, then ran a 4.59-second 40 at the UnderArmour Dallas camp three weeks later.

White plays with impressive instincts and closing speed. He thrives in space and shows the ability to track plays sideline to sideline. White possesses the ability to drop into coverage, while also being a bona fide hitter as needed.

"I definitely plan to visit back if I get the opportunity to," White said of UCLA. "Loved it there."
