Four-star 2019 OLB Owen Pappoe nearing 40 offers

Four-star Loganville (Ga.) Grayson outside linebacker Owen Pappoe is one of the most sought-after prospects in the country and spoke with Scout about his recruitment.

Owen Pappoe holds close to 40 scholarship offers.

Notre Dame became the latest a few weeks ago.

"It's a big accomplishment because it's a great program and they're selective when it comes to who they offer," said the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Pappoe. "I've been talking to (defensive coordintor) coach (Mike) Elko. He's really cool and I can relate to him.

"He's told me I'm one of their top targets. He's also said he's impressed with me off the field. I want to get up there soon so I can see how he coaches."

Pappoe's last visit was to Georgia a few weeks ago.

"I watched practice and just looked at how I'd fit into the defense," Pappoe said. "I like how they do things and really enjoyed the practice. They practiced really hard and I liked the intensity.

"I spent the most time with (inside linebackers) coach (Glenn) Schumann and coach (Kirby) Smart. I also sat down one-on-one with coach Smart and he talked about how he wants me to stay home and play at Georgia. It meant a lot that we were able to talk."

The Grayson standout's next trip will be to Clemson sometime this month.

"They're the top team in the country because they just won the national championship," Pappoe said. "I haven't been since they finished building the new facilities, so I'm ready to see everything.

"I'm also looking forward to sitting down and watching film with (defensive coordinator) coach (Brent) Venables. I have a good relationship with him and like how intense they are on defense. Hopefully, I'll be able talk with coach (Dabo) Swinney, too."

Pappoe plans to narrow his list of schools sometime later this year.
