DE David Alston gets first Big Ten offer

Woodbury (Minn.) defensive end David Alston's recruitment is picking up quickly and the arrival of his first Big Ten offer may kick that into the next gear.

Woodbury defensive end David Alston had a good performance at last weekend's NIKE Opening Regional. A lean, athletic pass rusher, Alston entered the event with 15 offers, including several from the Ivy League, UtahNorthern Illinois and more.

On Monday, the day after the camp, he received his first Big Ten offer from Nebraska.

"[I was a little surprised], yes," he said. "We'd been in contact for a while and they'd told me that they really like to do their research so I guess I thought it would take longer."

The Huskers have two Minnesota products on their roster, wide receivers Brett Classen and J.D.Spielman.

Alston will now look to set up a time to see the school and learn more about the program.

"I have not and yes a visit there will most likely happen I'm just not sure when yet. I know they put guys in the NFL and have a great tradition of winning championships also that their fanbase is extremely passionate."

Alston's recruitment is threatening to move to the next level as many other major programs have reached out.

"Notre Dame and Louisville have both invited me out to their spring games as well as some mail from Virginia. I'd been in contact with Wisconsin before but that has picked up recently as well."

As for next visits, Alston says, "I've got Minnesota on the 15th and Wisconsin on the 21st, nothing else is set in stone as of right now, but there will definitely be more coming."
