Rising Cornerback Eddie Smith Discusses Visits to LSU and Memphis

Eddie Smith, a rising three-star cornerback from Slidell (La.) Salmen, recaps visits to LSU and Memphis.

Eddie Smith is a busy man.

The 2018 three-star cornerback from Slidell (La.) Salmen visited Mississippi State the first weekend in April, then visited LSU and Memphis this past Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

Smith, who owns offers from more than a dozen schools -- including Mississippi State and Memphis -- came away from the LSU visit with rave reviews. The visit was Smith's second to Baton Rouge since late February, when he visited for the Tigers' "Boys from the Boot" junior day event.

"I loved my LSU visit," Smith said. "This time was much different because of how much more love the coaches showed. What stood out to me was how the staff worked together even though some coaches just got to LSU. And the new offense is great."

Smith said he spent time with defensive backs coach Corey Raymond and head coach Ed Orgeron. LSU has not yet offered Smith, but he said the coaches gave him an interesting message.

"Coach Raymond and Coach O told me they're going to make me a Tiger one day," he said.

As for Memphis, Smith said those Tigers like him as a versatile prospect, something he's proven he can be at the high school level.

"Memphis was OK. I talked to all the coaches," Smith said. "They want to use me on both sides of the ball there."

Oregon State was the first Power Five conference school to offer Smith, who says he wants to visit Corvallis next.

"I plan on visiting Oregon State soon," Smith said, "and my plans are to see what they have to offer compared to other schools I've visited."

Smith enjoyed a solid junior season this past fall, when he caught 11 passes for 275 yards and five touchdowns on an impressive 25.0 yards per catch. Defensively, he recorded 33 tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, and one defensive score.

Conditioning is the top priority for Smith as he prepares for his senior season.

"The main thing I need to work on is being in shape because I play both sides of the ball," Smith said.
