CB Davion Williams Excited for Iowa Offer

Detroit defensive back Davion Williams shares his excitement over Iowa offer.

Belleville High head coach Jermain Crowell had a stable of defensive backs with talent and athleticism last season, but he still knew he saw special ability in a basketball player at the school named Davion Williams. Thus, Crowell convinced Williams to try football despite an already crowded secondary.

That proved to be a fruitful move for both as Williams' natural athletic ability and size made him an asset. The thought is that he is only just scratching the surface of what he could be. His NIKE Opening Regional performance in Cleveland was further proof of that as Williams measured 6-foot-1, 178 pounds and was one of the top testers at the event. That type of natural ability is what has college coaches intrigued by him.

Last week, on a road trip through several schools, Williams added his first power-five offers from Iowa and Iowa State.

"Man, it was great," Williams said. "It came unexpected. It took me off guard, but all the hard work I did, being in gym with Coach Crowell for hours getting it in, paid off."

Williams still played basketball this winter and played it well. He has colleges recruiting him for hoops too, but realizes where his ceiling is the highest.

"I want to do football in college because I have a lot of opportunities," he says, "and a lot of people telling me I'm better at one, but I still love basketball and put in work in there because that is the love of my life too."

Last week's football visits were an eye-opener for him though as he had a chance to see two big programs who want to add him to their roster.

"Iowa, I loved it. It was very nice. The coaching staff seemed family oriented. Iowa State was nice. It was the same way. I love the facilities, I love the coaches, love the DBs coach (D.K. McDonald), he's real nice to me and texts me every day."

Crowell says many other programs continue to inquire about Williams and after his testing results on Sunday, there is little doubt his name will continue to rise.
