Multiple SEC offers for 2019 DE Derrick McClendon

Tucker (Ga.) 2019 defensive end Derrick McClendon is one of the top rising juniors in the Peach State and spoke with Scout about his recruitment.

Derrick McClendon's scholarship list has grown to ten.

LSU was the latest to pull the trigger.

"It's a big offer and it means a lot," said the 6-foot-3, 222-pound McClendon. "Arden Key is a guy I look up to and he plays defensive end for them. I like how dominant he is and just the way he plays.

"Coach (Ed) Orgeron was also originally a defensive line coach, so that grabs my attention. He has the same mindset I have when it comes to the game.

"I actually visited a few weeks ago. It was a good trip and I liked the food. But my favorite part was the practice -- it was very intense. I spent the most time with (defensive line) coach (Pete) Jenkins and he talked about their intensity and how he works hard to make his players the best they can be. The visit definitely increased my interest in LSU and I'm going back for the spring game (April 22)."

His next stop will likely be Florida sometime in the next few weeks.

"I'm looking forward to going back," McClendon said. "I've been down there twice already and that was my first SEC offer, which definitely means a lot.

"I've developed a good relationship with (defensive line) coach (Chris) Rumph. He's been telling me about how intense they are and that I could make a big impact at Florida.

"Hopefully, I'll be able to sit down with the coaches and go through a film session. I want to see how I'd fit into the defense and learn more about the scheme they run."

In regards to other upcoming visits, McClendon, who claims no favorites, hopes to get to ClemsonOhio State and USC this spring.
