3-star OL Brandon Mello Checks Out L.A. Schools

Concord (Calif.) Clayton Valley offensive lineman Brandon Mello has seven offers, a mixture of Pac-12 and Mountain West offers.


"I have seven offers, from Fresno StateOregon StateCaliforniaColoradoUCLASan Jose State and Hawaii," said Mello.

The Bruins were the latest offer to Mello, after he took an unofficial visit last week.

"Coach (Hank) Fraley and coach (Angus) McClure are recruiting me from UCLA," said Mello.  "The visit to UCLA was great.  The coaches were awesome and so were the facilities.  I met with the head coach, Jim Mora and Coach Fraley."

Mello also visited USC while in Los Angeles.

"USC was a great visit," said Mello.  "They have awesome facilities and an awesome campus.  I met with Coach (Clay) Helton and Coach (Neil) Callaway there."

Mello's teammate last fall at Clayton Valley, Jalen McKenzie, is headed to USC this fall to play as well.

The three-star has visited a few other in-state schools, checking out nearby Cal as well as Fresno State.

"And I'm planning to visit San Jose State, Oregon and Oregon State in the next month," said Mello.  "And I'm hoping to schedule a visit to WashingtonWashington StateArizona StateArizonaColorado and Utah."

Mello has been working with Men In the Trenches and plans to do The Opening Oakland next month.

At 6-7, 295, Mello said he's being recruited strictly as a tackle.

Mello said he didn't have a top five and plans to go through the recruiting process before making a decision.
