Gophers first Big Ten offer for WR Erik Gibson

Detroit King wide receiver Erik Gibson talks about his offer from Minnesota, his first from a Big Ten school.

Detroit King wide receiver Erik Gibson followed up a good Nike Opening Regional in Cleveland on Sunday with his Big Ten offer from Minnesota.

Gibson measured over 6-foot-1, 200 pounds and ran a laser-timed 4.68 in the forty, one of the better times on the day. Couple that with a good junior film from his days at Redford Thurston (he transferred to King after the season) and get a prospect who now has five offers. The Gophers join Western MichiganCentral MichiganEastern MichiganBall State and Howard on his list.

"To receive an offer from the Big Ten is huge," he said. "It really means a lot to me. I've never been to Minnesota, but I plan to visit in a couple weeks."

Gibson does have familiarity with head coach P.J. Fleck going back to last year when they were at Western Michigan.

"I know about the coaching staff and Coach Fleck when they were at Western Michigan," Gibson said. "I know they are about people, culture, and they care, that's what I want to surround myself by."

He hopes to continue getting to know the Gophers better once he gets to campus.

"I've been talking to [Matt] Simon, the receivers coach and Coach Fleck. I plan to build a stronger relationship with them in the future."
