Badgers secure top five spot with ATH Jaylan Franklin

After visiting Wisconsin and receiving a Badger offer, Gibraltar (Mich.) Carlson athlete Jaylan Franklin says the Badgers rank high on his list. He also discusses the position(s) they are recruiting him for.

Wisconsin is off to a quick start in their 2018 class and the state of Michigan has been kind to them with commitments from safety Reggie Pearson and offensvie tackle Michael Furtney, two players who turned down many other offers to come to Madison.

Now the Badgers are looking to strike in Michigan again as they offered Gibraltar Carlson's Jaylan Franklin, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound athlete, on Friday when he came to Madison.

"I loved my visit and it has put them in my top five for sure," he said. "Wisconsin has always been a favorite growing up and hearing about them being the number one college town was always said, but until you arrive in Madison, you really don't know."

Franklin says he will name the rest of hs top five, or possibly six, in the coming weeks. He has additional offers from Michigan StateNorthwesternVanderbiltMinnesotaIndianaPurdueSyracuse and more.

Wisconsin made a quick impression though.

"Well I was impressed," Franklin said. "If anything at all, I felt at home. It was a very similar feeling and it was a great visit. I got to see the major spots on campus and saw a lot of the water and the facility but the stadium got me. The opportunity to play in front of 88,000 of the best fans in America after playing in from of 100, 200 at most, at my school, is a huge blessing."

Franklin has a vast skill set. He played quarterback and linebacker at Carlson last year, but his size and athleticism could project to any number of spots in college. The Badgers discussed position with him before offering.

"When Wisconsin first started recruiting me back in November, they wanted me to play outside linebacker like the majority of big schools, but it changed when they offered two outside linebackers and they committed on the spot. They felt my presence on the team was needed and could help out immensely, so they asked me a few weeks ago if it would be okay to start looking at tight end and I have no problem accepting that role especially at Wisconsin where some of the best tight ends are born."

Another top contender is Northwestern, who Franklin also visited recently.

"Northwestern was a great visit as well. I had an overnight stay and got to interact with the players and students and I will also be doing an overnight stay at Wisconsin very soon also."

Franklin reported that he is looking commit in June or July.
