Montgomery, a rangy 2018 cornerback out of Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough, is not ready to trim down his lengthy list of suitors, but says Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA and Arkansas are recruiting him the hardest at this time.
"(Wide receivers) coach (Jacob) Peeler pretty much told me how they are very interested in me, and how they need talented DBs with ball skills like myself," Montgomery said.
"The defensive coach loved my film. They just wanted to make sure they get me on board because they said they are coming after me."
The South's 22nd-ranked cornerback plans to make full use of his offseason with a flurry of visits scheduled to take place, including one to North Carolina for June 18-22.
"(Tight ends) coach (Chad) Scott is a really special guy to me, and every time we talk he sounds like a father figure to me," Montgomery said. "I like how hard coach Scott recruits me. He makes me feel good about coming in and making a difference.
"He just told me that I can make a huge difference and an early impact because they don't have an athlete like me on the defensive side."
