Teely Rhyne and Cameron Williams

Andrean teammates land Cyclone offers

Merrillville (Ind.) Andrean teammates Teely Rhyne, a junior athlete, and Cameron Williams, a sophomore linebacker, both discuss their offers from Iowa State, both their first offers of the process.

Andrean High School junior athlete Teely Rhyne and sophomore linebacker Cameron Williams received their first scholarship offers on Thursday from Iowa State.

They are the first prospects from the school to receive Power 5 offers since linebacker Josh Barajas (Notre Dame) in the class of 2015.

Rhyne (6-1, 170 pounds) rushed for 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns as a running back last season, but his length and athleticism allows him to project to other positions, potentially wide receiver or defensive back, as well.

"I think it's an amazing opportunity to play receive an offer from Iowa State," Rhyne said. "It's a great school. Coach Louis [Ayeni] offered me as an athlete. Although I've played running back, I'm being looked at for a few other positions as well."

Williams is only a sophomore, but not many 6-foot-3, 205-pound kids can run hurdles in track like he does. Based on that size and athleticism, it was only a matter of time before the first offer came.

"I feel blessed," Williams said. "It's a great opportunity, not only for me, but the northwest Indiana area as well. There are a lot of sleepers in this area, so I'm blessed to help bring attention to the area."

Williams paid attention to what the Cyclones did last year and the progress they are showing under head coach Matt Campbell.

"It's a great school academically and a program on the rise," he said. "They only lost a few games by three points. That's big for a new staff."

Rhyne and Williams both visited Indiana recently. Both are hearing from Purdue, Iowa, Ball State, Vanderbilt, Northern Illinois, Kentucky, Memphis, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Western Michigan as well.

They will both attend this summer's Sound Mind, Sound Body Football Academy in Detroit.
