New Jersey CB Jarrett Paul visited Boston College; Rutgers next as decision nears

Paramus (N.J.) Catholic cornerback Jarrett Paul visited Boston College, and Rutgers is up next.

Jarrett Paul, a cornerback from Paramus (N.J.) Catholic, visited Boston College on Thursday and will make a return trip to Rutgers for Saturday's spring game.

After that, he has no visits set up and a decision could be coming.

"It can happen any time, to be honest," Paul said.

The 6-foot-1, 189-pound Paul holds offers from Rutgers and Buffalo. He said Boston College defensive backs coach Anthony Campanile will be at Paramus Catholic next week as the Eagles continue their evaluation.

His trip to campus, though, gave him a look into the program, both on and off the field.

"I like the intensity that they had going. They had a scrimmage during their practice, so the guys were really flying around," Paul said. "They were hitting and it was really intense. I like how coach Campanile was coaching his guys up, coaching them real hard, pushing them. He was just being himself.

"I feel like he's a tough coach. I get along well with coaches that push you and get the best out of you."

Paul spent a lot of time watching Boston College's cornerbacks.

"They are very versatile," Paul said. "He coaches the corners and the safeties. He makes sure his guys are defensive backs so that his guys can play corner or safety. So let's say a safety goes down (with an injury), he's not worried. He can throw in his backup corner because he knows how to play safety."

Next up is a trip to Rutgers, where Paul already visited several times.

"I just want to be around the players more," he said. "I really gel well with the players. All the corners, those are my guys. I talk to them every day. They let me know what is really going on in the program. It's good to be cool with the players so I can get the coach's perspective of the program, and the players."

Paul said he speaks with coaches from Rutgers "every day," and he feels a strong connection with them.

"They let me know they offered me in February and got on me quickly and they don't want other schools to come in and have me forget about Rutgers," Paul said. "They want me to think Rutgers, and that Rutgers actually believes in me."

Paul transferred to Paramus Catholic from Brooklyn's Christ The King, and he noticed the Scarlet Knights are doing well recruiting New York City.

"It does (matter)," he said. "I want to go to a school with people I can relate to, people I'm cool with and people who talk the way I talk and I can relate to."
