Ryan Montgomery's versatility was on display as a junior. The Franklin (Ohio) High standout was primarily a running back, rushing for 1,935 yards and 34 touchdowns, but he also passed for 521 yards and four touchdowns, caught two touchdowns and returns one kick for a score.
"I'm being recruited as a running back and slot," the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Montgomery said. "I don't have a set top three, I'm still looking at all options."
However, he does know one school that would make that top group.
"Kentucky is still in my top three," he said. "I have only been to one visit on a junior day there."
Cincinnati is a nearby school which has offered and had Montgomery down on a visit. New head coach Luke Fickell and the Bearcats are off to a fast start in recruiting and Montgomery has taken note of that.
"I've been to Cincinnati most recently," he said. "I love it at Cincinnati and the new coaches are changing the culture which is seeming successful."
The most recent school to offer was Iowa State, who offered on Thursday, and he is looking to learn more about the Cyclones.
"I haven't been on campus at Iowa State yet but I hope to soon. It sounds like all good things going on there from me talking with Coach Ayeni and Coach Gasser."
At this point, Montgomery said he does not have any visits on his schedule. He plans to attend college camps in the summer, but has not set that schedule.
