Orion, Illinois is a little bit off the beaten path as far as the college football recruiting landscape, but schools are finding their way there thanks to class of 2019 tight end Logan Lee.
Lee, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound prospect has the size and athleticism schools covet and add in his wrestling background and he became an obvious scholarship prospect. Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Minnesota and Missouri have all offered.
"The snowball effect is really overwhelming," he said. "It is a great experience and I am very fortunate to have all these offers."
Based on his frame and athletic tools, Lee could play defense in college as well. He played on that side of the ball at Orion last season, but for now, his future appears to be on offense.
"So far, the majority of schools are recruiting me as a tight end. Michigan State is the only one that mentioned defensive end."
Of his seven offers, Lee said he has been to three of those schools, Iowa, Michigan and Illinois. Iowa was his first offer and he will remember that as he moves through the process.
"That first one is always amazing. All the other ones are too, but the first one you remember the most. I really love the campus, the coaching staff there and they fit with my playing style."
Michigan was his second offer.
"It was incredible," Lee said. "Jim Harbaugh is very high energy, has a lot of intensity, and the way they run their practice, I really liked it too.:.
Illinois is Lee's home-state school. Orion is about two and a half hours from Champaign and he had a good time on his visit as well.
"I love the staff," he said. "They are very down to earth, very helpful in everything they do and I really enjoyed it there."
