ACC, Big Ten and SEC vying top-ranked Va. safety Dashaun Jerkins

CLIFTON, Va. -- Four-star Woodbridge (Va.) safety Dashaun Jerkins is one of the top defensive backs in the East and spoke with the Scout at the The Opening Regional at Centreville High School.

Dashaun Jerkins' scholarship list has grown to double digits.

According to Jerkins, North CarolinaVanderbiltPittsburghWake Forest, Maryland and James Madison are showing the most interest.

North Carolina has been his leader for months. Is that still the case?

"They're still my No. 1, but I'm keeping my options open," said the 6-foot, 188-pound Jerkins. "When I go down there, it's a family atmosphere, and I'm comfortable with all the coaches.

"I've been talking to (defensive coordinator) coach (John) Papachis. He's been telling me he loves how I play and loves my film and wants me there. I'm going back down for the (Fedora's) Freak Show this summer."

Jerkins' last visit was Maryland.

"I liked it a lot and the coaches showed me a lot of love," Jerkins said. "Everyone talked to me and told me they were happy I was there.

"My favorite part was talking to coach (D.J.) Durkin. He told me he loves how I play and that I could make an immediate impact at Maryland. I'm going to go back and visit again, but I'm not sure when yet."

His next stop could be Louisville.

"I haven't visited yet, so I'm looking forward to soon," Jerkins said. "I know it's a good school and they have good players. I want to meet the staff and see how they do things.

"(Wide receivers) coach (Lonnie) Galloway is recruiting me. He's been telling me he loves me and that he wants me to come see the campus. He's excited to show me what Louisville is all about."

Jerkins does not have a timeline for his decision.
