Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta receiver Khalil Shakir (6-0, 180) is up to a dozen offers with a recent surge coming.
"I have 12 all together, from Washington State, UCLA, Colorado, San Jose State, Hawaii, Arizona State, Arizona, Illinois, Nevada, BYU, Colorado State and Boise State," said Shakir.
Shakir was out in the desert recently and visited Arizona State and Arizona and both those schools left impressions on him.
"I like Arizona State and Arizona right now and I've taken visits to those schools," said Shakir.
Shakir said the next trip will be a more local one.
"I plan on getting up to UCLA soon," said Shakir.
A number of other schools are recruiting Shakir, and while they haven't offered, they're in steady communication.
"Oklahoma, Cal, USC, Oregon, Wyoming and Oregon State are some schools recruiting me but haven't offered," said Shakir.
Shakir has built relationship with a number of coaches.
"Coach (Terry) Fair at Colorado State, Coach (Dave) White from Nevada, Coach (Eric) Kiesau, Coach (Ken) Wilson from Washington State, Coach Meat (Demetrice Martin) from UCLA, Coach (Rob) Likens from Arizona State have been some of the coaches I've talked a lot with," said Shakir.
Shakir said he's still pretty open in the process.
"I don't have a top five yet," said Shakir. "I'm taking my time with the process and I don't want to rush it yet."
So far, a handful of schools have come by Vista Murrieta to check in on him.
"Illinois, BYU, Arizona and Oregon State and a couple of other schools have came by since the eval period started," said Shakir. "Washington State, Boise State, Arizona State and many more colleges will be coming by too."
This weekend, Shakir will be playing in the Passing Down Best of the West 7v7 tournament with ProWay.
