Michael Thompson, a 6-foot-4, 309-pound defensive tackle from St. Louis (Mo.) Parkway North has collected one of the nation's most elite offer lists securing scholarships from schools like Alabama, Florida, Iowa, Louisville, LSU, Miami (Fl), Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, and Texas A&M.
Thompson has not yet narrowed down his focus to a Top 10, but there have been some memorable moments already in his recruitment.
"When I got an offer from Ohio State," Thompson answered when asked if any moments stuck out. "It was surreal I did not really expect it to come. They offered my sophomore year.
I went to two (Ohio State) games (last season) -- when they played Indiana and when they played Michigan. The Michigan game was wild, it was crazy, it was real loud."
Alabama - "It was just a great visit all around. They recruit real good. They recruit good, they work out good. They raise their players to be good people overall."
LSU - "I feel like I really like Coach (Ed) Orgeron (LSU Head Coach). I feel like he cares about you more as a person than as a player. He welcomed me good. I just liked it and that stadium is humongous."
"I don’t want to say that there are schools that I have got to see," Thompson answered when asked if there were certain visits he needed to make before announcing his cut-down list. "But I want to see more schools.
One I know I want to see is Nebraska, but I am not sure about the other ones right now. I just know they got a good fan base (at Nebraska) and I just want to get down there and check it out."
Thompson is not in a rush to end his recruitment.
"I am going to ride it out until the end on National Signing Day," Thompson informed.
As a junior in 2016, Thompson racked up 90 tackles, 14 sacks, and 15 tackles for loss to earn All-Metro, All-State and Scout.com All-Midlands honors.
