Three-star OLB Wendell Davis's lengthy offer list includes ACC and Big Ten programs

CLIFTON, Va. -- Richmond (Va.) Benedictine outside linebacker Wendell Davis' recruitment exploded over the past few months and he spoke with Scout at The Opening Washington D.C. Regional.

Wendell Davis' scholarship total is nearing 20.

There is a smaller group pursuing him most aggressively.

"DukePittsburghBoston College and Rutgers are recruiting me hardest," said the 6-foot-1, 218-pound Davis. "It means a lot that they're showing so much interest and they really believe I could help their programs.

"I'd like to narrow my list down sometime this summer. I'd say Duke, Pittsburgh and Rutgers are some schools that have a good chance to make it. "

Duke was one of the first schools to offer.

"The coaching staff is great and they're all about their players and they have a family atmosphere," Davis said. "The academics side speaks for itself because it's a very prestigious school. Playing in the ACC and getting a degree from there is a great combination.

"(Running backs) coach (Re'quan) Boyette is recruiting me. He's real cool and I like him a lot. He's easy to talk to and I can talk to him about anything. He keeps telling me how I'd fit in well at Duke."

He visited Rutgers recently.

"I really enjoyed the visit," Davis said. "The practice was very uptempo and I really like the coaching staff. My favorite part was watching them practice and seeing how they do things. I'll probably go back to a game in the fall.

"They didn't have the year they wanted last year, but coach (Chris) Ash and his staff are doing a great job recruiting and I think the program is going in the right direction. I've also been talking to coach (Jay) Niemann a lot. He's talked to me about how I would fit in and how I could make an impact."

Davis hopes to make his commitment before the start of the season.
