ACC, Big Ten programs battling for three-star WR Robert Mayo

CLIFTON, Va. -- Robert Mayo's stock continues to rise and Scout spoke to the South Riding (Va.) Freedom wide receiver at the Nike Opening Regional at Centreville High School.

Robert Mayo's recruitment exploded this spring.

According to the Freedom wide receiver, he has the most contact with four schools.

"Wake ForestMarylandNC State and Old Dominion are recruiting me hardest and it really means a lot they're showing so much interest," Mayo said.

Maryland is Mayo's top school.

"They're showing me a lot of love," said the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Mayo. "It's close to home and I like the family feel there. I also think I fit in well at Maryland.

"(Wide receivers) coach (Chris) Beatty has told me they really want me. He said I'm a big wide receiver and that's what they need. He also said he can help me get to the next level."

He gave a thought on the other schools.

Wake Forest: "I like that it's a small school and everyone basically knows everyone," Mayo said. "The football team is also very close and like a family.

"I've been talking to (offensive line) coach (Nick) Tabacca and we're developing a good relationship. He's a really good guy and a really good coach. I feel like he really wants me at Wake Forest."

NC State: "They have a really good coaching staff and I like all of them, especially (wide receivers) coach (George) McDonald. He's told that I'm a very good receiver and I'd fit well in their offense."

"I'm actually visiting soon. It will be my first time there, so I'm looking forward to the trip. I want to see the locker rooms and other facilities. I also want to meet all the coaches and just get a better feel for the school."

Mayo hopes to commit before the season starts.
