Scout Previews Defensive Standouts Expected to Compete at New Jersey's The Opening Regional camp

A look at the top defensive prospects expected to compete at New Jersey's The Opening Regional on Sunday in Florham Park.

Defensive Linemen

A few of the best interior defensive linemen in the East are set to attend, led by Owings Mills (Md.) Mc Donogh's P.J. Mustipher, a Scout 100 prospect. He made a recent visit to Notre Dame and has TennesseeOhio StateAlabama and Michigan among his top schools. 

Notre Dame commits Jayson Ademilola and Justin Ademilola of Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep are joined by the Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco duo of Tyler Friday and Marcellus Earlington. Friday made several recent visits to Rutgers, and was at Ohio State recently. Penn State and Michigan are among the schools Earlington has a bevy of offers, including ones from Rutgers, Penn State, GeorgiaNorth CarolinaBoston CollegeSyracuse and Duke.

Four-star Dorian Hardy of Paramus (N.J.) Catholic also holds a lot of offers, including Penn State, Rutgers, North Carolina, MiamiMichigan State and Nebraska.


A lot of eyes will be on five-star Micah Parsons, a defensive end from Harrisburg (Pa.) High. He decommitted from Penn State last weekend, and now plenty of eyes are on him. He has GeorgiaOhio StateFlorida StateAlabamaUSC and the Nittany Lions among the schools on him hard. He is working out at linebacker.

Virginia commit Javar of Hightstown (N.J.) Peddie and class of 2020 linebacker Kalel Mullings of Milton (Mass.) Academy are slated to perform. Mullings already holds offers from Maryland, Michigan and Boston College.

Defensive backs

The No. 2 safety in the nation, Isheem Young of Philadelphia Imhotep, headlines the group. He is looking hard at a number of schools, including Penn State, Maryland, Ohio State and West Virginia.

Safety Shayne Simon of St. Peter's Prep made recent visits to Stanford and UCLA, and is also heavily involved with Notre Dame, Rutgers, Ohio State and Michigan.

Virginia Tech commit Nasir Peoples of Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood is fresh off a visit to Notre Dame. Rutgers cornerback commit Jarrett Paul of Paramus Catholic will attend.

In the 2019 class, standout cornerback Nyquee Hawkins of Orange (N.J.) High is a hot prospect. He made recent visits to Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State, and Ohio State and Stanford are schools of interest for him.
