Because of the strong connection to the state the Falcons have been dialed in to TXHSFB talent and have uncovered a number of diamonds in the rough. McBride is a known name, but his recruitment is starting to have a snowball effect.
"It was huge to know a school like that believed in me," McBride said. "I always have known I could play at any level but for other coaches to realize that is big for me."
McBride has also secured offers from schools such as Abilene Christian, Brown, Columbia, Illinois State, and Montana State. He is still on a number of D1 radars and his interest grows as schools see him the spring evaluation period.
Schools like Rice, Texas State, San Diego State, Memphis, Oklahoma State, and Illinois are all tracking him. He has two big in-state visits scheduled with Texas State and Rice this week, and an offer from either could be another big moment in his process.
Texas State - "They are always in contact and I have FaceTimed a lot of the staff, so I feel confident in our relationship and the legitimacy of their interest."
Rice - "They have been recruiting me for a while and I have a great relationship with coach (Scott) Vestal, so I'm just excited to grow my relationship even more."
McBride touched on some f the other programs that are keeping a close eye on his development this spring.
"I'm pumped for San Diego State to come watch me because I feel I could do big things in their system," McBride reported.
"Memphis is very interested and when I went on a unofficial up there they really expressed their interest in me. I feel I have a legit shot of getting an opportunity to play there based on our conversations. Oklahoma State has been on me for a while and I think that might be a door for me later on."
As a junior, McBride passed for 2,589 yards and 33 touchdowns. he also rushed for 547 yards and seven scores. He earned 9-6A MVP honors for his efforts.
"My biggest strength is my mindset and the attitude I play with," McBride said. "I know I am never out of a game and I can change the whole course of it within seconds. But for a tangible strength... I would say extending the play and throwing at all arm slots, and (throwing) on the run."
