The above video features junior-season highlights of 2018 three-star safety Christian Morgan.
Christian Morgan, 2017 Safety, Porter (Texas)
Size: 6-0, 190
Recruiting: Morgan committed Monday to Baylor. He also owns offers from Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Houston, Colorado State, Connecticut, New Mexico, North Texas, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, ULL, and UTSA.
Rankings: Scout ranks Morgan as the No. 13 safety in the state of Texas' 2018 class, which is deep at the position. He's the No. 68 safety nationally for his recruiting cycle.
2016: Morgan made an impact on both sides of the ball as a junior, when he ran for 207 yards and four touchdowns on 5.3 yards per carry, while recording 56 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, and two pass breakups. Morgan also averaged 26.1 yards on seven kickoff returns and 13.8 yards on 10 punt returns, including one touchdown.
Christian Morgan is a Power Five-caliber prospect who projects best as a safety. Morgan owns a solid frame (6-0, 190) for the position and happens to be one of the most athletic high school football players in the nation with a 144.0 Nike Football Rating, a number he posted in early April at The Opening Chicago.
At that event, Morgan ran a 4.56-second laser-timed 40, as well as an impressive 4.03 shuttle. He also recorded a 42.8-inch vertical leap. Having competed at three The Opening regional camps this semester, Morgan has proven he owns has consistent 4.5 laser 40 speed and explosive qualities as a leaper and lateral athlete.
Morgan can provide the big hit, but he needs to improve his technique consistency as a tackler. He does not always wrap up and sometimes goes for the big shoulder blow instead. He could contribute early in the return game, both with the ball in his hands and as a coverage gunner.
Morgan has a lot of potential because of his exceptional athleticism, which likely gives him a higher ceiling than some similarly-built safety prospects who may not own the same level of quick-twitch suddenness. - Gabe Brooks
