Five Schools Are Soaking up the Full Attention of 2019 ILB Charles Thomas

Five schools are leading the way for 2019 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy inside linebacker, Charles Thomas.

Charles Thomas, who transferred into the Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy back in December, dishes out the five schools sitting atop his list with summertime right around the corner.

A Peach State native who clocks in at inside linebacker, the 6-foot, 222-pound Thomas is a national recruit who is armed with roughly a dozen scholarship offers.

"I don't have a leader, but at this time, my top five are Michigan, Clemson, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia Southern in no order," Thomas said. "I love everything about Michigan, especially the rich tradition and awesome coaches. I love everything about Clemson as well. I feel at home every time I go to Clemson.

"Tennessee is a second home for me as well. North Carolina was awesome when I visited, and I fell in love with the school and coaching staff when I visited. I haven't visited Georgia Southern yet, but one of the coaches there (coach Downs) is respected and trusted by many people I am close to, and that is one reason why they are one of my top schools."

College coaches are currently unable to initiate contact with prospects out of the 2019 class, but Thomas has certainly done his part by kicking things into gear and dialing up Jim Harbaugh's staff up in Ann Arbor.

"I love the rich tradition, and I believe that I could thrive in their defense," Thomas said. "I also feel like I have a pretty good relationship with coach (Chris) Partridge, the linebackers coach.

"I love Harbaugh's energy and passion for the game of football."

Coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers have signed multiple prospects representing the IMG Academy, and currently hold commitments from a pair of their seniors as well, including Xavier Thomas, the nation's second-ranked defensive end.

"I love that Clemson is close to Atlanta, which is my hometown. I also feel like I could thrive in their defense," Thomas said. "(Defensive coordinator) coach (Brent) Venables and Swinney are excellent coaches, and I think it would be great to be coached by someone like them."

Thomas is nowhere near the recruiting finish line, but knows what it is going to take for a school to seal the deal and capture his signature on National Signing Day.

"When evaluating schools, I like to make sure that I feel at home and comfortable with the coaches," Thomas said. "Education is also big for my family and I."

Thomas said Michigan, Clemson, Georgia Southern and North Carolina are schools likely to receive visits over the summertime.
