Scout looks at the Top Surprises from The Opening New Jersey

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Scout takes a look at the top surprises from The Opening Regional at the New York Jets' training facility.

Khris Banks was on the radar for a while, but his size and play at the event made him a top performer, and surprise all at the same time. Banks was strong in his base and forceful with his hands. He showed tremendous power with his initial punch, and he moved his feet well to cover the inside and the outside. Banks holds offers from MarshallKent State and Buffalo, and Rutgers and Temple are increasing their interest in him.

New Haven (Conn.) Wilbur Cross offensive guard prospect Travis Jones came in with no hoopla surrounding him, and he left as one of the top offensive lineman at the event. He is best suited to play on the interior, and his length and quickness after the snap stood out. His foot speed was good, and his hand placement was consistent. Jones has interest from ConnecticutSyracuse and Rutgers.

Zihir Lacewell is the No. 248 prospect in the nation, so why was he a surprise at The Opening Regional? Well, he is projected as an outside linebacker, and we think he still ends up there, but he was talking about playing receiver for a while and he showed he could do it. Lacewell's explosion and his closing speed on the ball was impressive. He was good getting out of breaks and he was natural catching the ball away from his body. He is being recruited the hardest by Rutgers, and is planning a camp visit to Penn State.

Anthony Marinelli, an offensive guard prospect from DePaul, was strong in his base and quick with his hands. He was tough, and he was also patient. He had tremendous body control and was rarely caught off balance. His offer list includes ArmyBowling and Buffalo.

Not a lot of recruiters head to Easthampton (Mass.) The Williston Northampton School, but they should be checking on Johnny Rosario, who had a big day. He has good size, got off the line well and he was sharp getting out of his breaks. Rosario was strong with his hands and put the ball away quick and got up the field. He holds offers fro Boston CollegeMassachusetts and New Hampshire.
