ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC targeting 2019 OLB Brandon Smith

Mineral (Va.) Louisa County 2019 outside linebacker Brandon Smith is one of the hottest prospects in the East and he spoke with Scout about his recruitment.

Brandon Smith's recruitment exploded this spring and he is closing in on double-digit scholarship offers.

Wake Forest offered Smith earlier this week.

"I actually camped there last summer," said the 6-foot-4, 215-pound Smith. "It's a great school academically and I like the area. I also like that it's a smaller school and the overall environment. Hopefully, I'll be able to visit again.

"I've been talking to (tight ends) coach (Wayne) Lineberg and he's told me about the people at Wake Forest. He's also told me about the school's history and the way the football program does things. I think the program is on the rise."

"I like how it's a great academic school and they're also a program on the rise," Smith said. "I haven't really talked to any coaches from there, but hopefully I'll be able to soon.

"I'd like to visit, but I'm not sure when yet. I want to tour the campus and see what Vanderbilt has to offer. I also want to see the football facilities and speak with the coaches."

Although he does not have anything scheduled, Smith said USC could be his next visit.

"I know it's a great academic school and major football program, so I definitely want to learn more. I also want to see the campus and get an overall feel for the school."
