Scout previews defensive standouts expected to compete at The Opening Charlotte Regional Camp

A look at the top defensive prospects expected to compete in The Opening Charlotte at Charlotte Mecklenburg County Sportsplex on Sunday.

Defensive line

Leading the way on the defensive line will be Scout 100 defensive ends Adam Anderson from Rome (Ga.), who is committed to LSU, and  K.J. Henry out of Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth. Henry has offers from across the country, but some schools to watch are AlabamaClemsonGeorgia and Ohio State.

Other top 2018 prospects expected to compete are four-star Rome (Ga.) defensive end and LSU commit Jamarcus Chatman, four-star Concord (N.C.) defensive tackle Rick Sandidge, Richmond (Va.) Benedictine defensive end Chris Collins, Raleigh (N.C.) Millbrook defensive end Joseph Boletepeli, Fairmont (W.V.) defensive end Dante Stills, Chesapeake (Va.) defensive tackle Jalen Alexander,  Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day defensive tackle Elijiah Brown, Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan defensive end Dante Burke and Saluda (S.C.) defensive tackle Kelijiha Brown, who is committed to Wake Forest.

Several talented underclassman are slated to attend Sunday. The list includes 2019 four-star Nashville (Tenn.) Davidson Academy defensive end Ani Izuchukwu, Tucker (Ga.) defensive end Derrick McClendon and 2019 Clayton (N.C.) defensive end Savion Jackson. All are among the best in the country in their class. Others in the 2019 class to keep an eye on are Fayetteville (N.C.) Trinity Christian defensive tackle Zovon Lindsay and New London (N.C.) North Stanly defensive tackle C.J. Clark. Sanford (N.C.) Lee County defensive end Desmond Evans and Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day defensive end Jacolbe Cowan -- two of the top 2020 prospects in the country -- will also be on hand.


The linebacker group will be strong and the headliner is Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan outside linebacker Teradja Mitchell, who is the No. 16 prospect in the country, and down to Florida StateLSU and Ohio State.

Other top linebackers who will compete are four-star Dinwiddie (Va.) outside linebacker K'Vaughan Pope, four-star Shelby (N.C.) inside linebacker Dax Hollifield, four-star Hillsborough (N.C.) Orange outside linebacker and North Carolina commit Payton Wilson, four-star Greensboro (N.C.) Page outside linebacker Alan Tisdale, Central (S.C.) D.W. Daniel outside linebacker and Clemson commit Jake Venables, Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith inside linebacker Keshon Artis, Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian outside linebacker Eriq Gilyard, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes inside linebacker Khalid Jones, Birmingham (Ala.) Vestavia Hills outside linebacker Jonathan Hess and Montgomery (Ala.) Lee outside linebacker Kevontae Ruggs.

Multiple talented underclassman will be at the Sportsplex and they include four-star 2019 Loganville (Ga.) Grayson outside linebacker Owen Pappoe, who has nearly 40 scholarship offers, 2019 Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage inside linebacker Drake Thomas and 2020 Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan inside linebacker Gaberiel Fuster.

Defensive back

The defensive back group will be absolutely loaded. The headliner is Thomson (Ga.) Scout 300 cornerback Christian Tutt, who will choose between Alabama, Florida State, Georgia and Ohio State on May 30.  Hampton (Ga.) Dutchtown safety Trey Dean, Alpharetta (Ga.) cornerback Jaycee Horn and Wesley Chapel (Fla.) Wirebgrass Ranch cornerback Jordan Miner are other four-star prospects slated to attend.

Others to keep an eye on are Sanford (N.C.) Southern Lee safety Nate Thompson, Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer cornerback and Duke commit Taiyon Palmer, Miami (Fla.) Carol City safety and Miami commit Randy Russell, Bailey (N.C.) Southern Nash cornerback Nadir Thompson, Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley cornerback D.J. Crossen, Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe cornerback Steven Gilmore, Virginia Beach (Va.) Landstown safety Joseph White, Florence (S.C.) Wilson and Wake Forest commit Zion Keith, Blacksburg (S.C.) cornerback and Indiana commit Elijah Rodgers and Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing safety Cam Taylor.

Many talented underclassman will be on hand and they include 2019 Suwanee (Ga.) Central Gwinnett cornerback DJ Turner II, 2019 Cornelius (N.C.) Hough cornerback Tyus Fields, 2019 Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth cornerback Jaquan McMillian, 2019 Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside cornerback Jayden Curry, 2019 Roswell (Ga.) cornerback Tyron Hopper and elite 2020 Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan cornerback Sheridan Jones.
