Scout previews offensive standouts expected to compete at The Opening Charlotte Regional Camp

A look at the top offensive prospects expect to compete in The Opening Charlotte at Charlotte Mecklenburg County Sportsplex.

Quarterback

The trigger position will have most eyes on it heading into the event, provided the Peach State prospects make the trip northeast. The list, like any in looking at class of 2018 recruiting, begins with the No. 1 prospect in the country.

Scout hasn't yet seen Cartersville (Ga.) star and Clemson commitment Trevor Lawrence in person this spring, following a minor injury, so any time his name is on an expected list it is a headline in itself. There hasn't been much discussion to unseat him atop the rankings, but there is a special quarterback group in the state of Georgia behind him and a few of the blue-chips are expected to accompany Lawrence in Charlotte. Ohio State commitment Emory JonesTexas A&M pledge Cade Fortin and the hottest uncommitted quarterback in Georgia, three-star Jarren Williams, are each on the list. Should they all show, it would represent four of the top five passers in the Peach State's 2018 class.

Quarterbacks from closer to the Charlotte event include Wake Forest commitment Sam Hartman and East Carolina-bound Holton Ahlers among rising seniors, as is blue-chip Auburn commitment Joey Gatewood and fellow four-star Gerry Bohanon, two of the top athletes playing the game's most important position.

Among underclassmen, the list is also impressive behind Alabama legacy prospect Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of 2017 Crimson Tide signee Tua Tagovailoa. Several schools have jumped in on his offer list early on just like fellow class of 2019 arms Sam Howell and Garrett Shrader, each from the Tar Heel State. A last name familiar to those who follow college football, Jackson Muschamp, is becoming a quarterback name to potentially know in the class of 2020.

Running Back

The host state boasts the highest-ranked running back prospects expected to compete in Charlotte, led by Durham (N.C.) Hillside four-star and new Oregon Duck commitment Jamal Elliott. Fellow four-star Ricky Person, is also expected and is pledged to the NC State Wolfpack

The state of Virginia boasts a top 10 running back in Ronnie Walker, another class of 2018 standout expected at the position. His recruitment is shaping up to be an ACC/Big Ten battle with many programs still in the mix among his near 20 scholarship offers. Other top 'backs in the region expected among rising seniors include Clemson Tiger legacy Devon Lawrence, younger brother of Dexter Lawrence, as well as fellow three-star Jahmir Smith. Each holds considerable regional offers at this time.

Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale running back Chris Tyree is among the most coveted running backs expected, though he is a class of 2020 representative among a wide-spread list of competitors which includes a California back in Malone Mataele and one from Peurto Rico on the roster in Christopher Fuentes.

Wide Receiver/Tight End

This type of setting lends itself to big-time performances at the wide receiver and tight end position and the Charlotte roster is deep at each group. Scout100 athlete Derion Kendrick is expected to take most reps as a wide receiver Sunday and he may have the chance to work with Lawrence, a fellow Clemson verbal commitment. The Palmetto State's group will be strong, as expected, with Kendrick, Dennis Smith and Bryce Thompson among those slated to compete from South Carolina. Thompson has been committed to Virginia Tech for nearly a year.

North Carolina's top pass catchers are slated to compete in four-star Jordyn Adams, who has a who's who offer list though he has cut it down to Alabama, Clemson, LSUNorth Carolina and Ohio State. Class of 2019 talent Nolan Groulx and class of 2020 wideout Porter Rooks represent three classes of talent from the host state. Rooks may be among the most talented underclassmen expected regardless of position. Among tight ends, rising senior three-star Andrew Tuazama is one to watch as he closes in on double-digit scholarship offers.

Virginia has prospects like Armani Chatman and James Mitchell representing the class of 2018 along with underclassman Cameron Hunter among top targets for the deep group of quarterbacks expected. Chatman has offers from several Power 5 conferences at this time. The top tight end in Tennessee, Jacob Warren, and his near 20 scholarship offers, is expected as well.

Offensive Line

If not for the quarterbacks at the event much of the offensive focus would default to those protecting passers. The offensive line group has big-time prospects expected from throughout the South. The highest ranked heading into the event is from Alabama in four-star interior talent Marcus Jenkins, better known as "Tank" in the college football recruiting world. He's armed with a bevy of southern offers, including the in-state Auburn Tigers, GeorgiaFlorida and the reigning national champion Clemson Tigers as well.

The Peach State is strong in the 2018 class and beyond led by four-star Warner Robins (Ga.) standout Christian Armstrong, who is a top 10 tackle in the South with extensions throughout the SEC and well beyond like OregonPenn State and Florida State, among others. A rising junior from the Peach State among the most coveted is Warren McClendon, another big offensive tackle with a gaudy offer list. Alabama recently entered the race for his services.

The Carolinas holds yet another South Carolina pledge on the expected roster in Hank Manos, who tops the center position in the state. Also on the interior is Charlotte native Jovaughn Gwyn, a three-star who crossed the double-digit offer plateau last month. The state of Tennessee is represented by Jackson Lampley in the class of 2019, with offers from many in the region. Fellow underclassman Altrique Barlow holds the same from Virginia.
