"Well, I don't know too much about Illinois, but I'm just blessed to have the offer," Barker said. "The offer is real big; I mean, what more could I ask for?
"Illinois for my first Big Ten offer, I'm just thankful. I'll also be up there in the summer."
Barker, who has yet to speak with the Illini coaching staff, previously labeled UCF as the front-runner in his recruitment, but says that is no longer the case with his stock clearly on the upswing.
"Everything is 50/50 right now," Barker said. "Everybody has a chance to get me to their program right now.
"There is no more top school; everybody is pretty much equal."
With that said, Barker takes it a step further by detailing his ideal situation on the collegiate level.
"For me, I want it to feel like a good comfort zone," Barker said. "Also, a great connection with the coaching staff."
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Barker says he is taking a summer trip up to the Midwest to tour schools from the Big Ten, MAC and more.
