South's No. 59 WR Calvin Lockett Is Taking a Wait-And-See Approach

Fresh off another Big Ten offer, three-star receiver Calvin Lockett also has one visit in mind for over the summertime.

A flurry of suitors, including one representing the Big Ten, are going all in for the services of Calvin Lockett, the 59th-ranked receiver in the talent-rich South.

The 6-foot-2, 160-pound Lockett, a three-star prospect at Largo (Fla.) High, is armed with nearly a dozen scholarship offers, including a handful at the Power Five level.

"I don't really have a top school, but the schools I'm getting the most attention from are IllinoisSouth FloridaUCF and Toledo," Lockett said.

Lockett is currently a hot commodity among multiple schools hailing from the Big Ten Conference, including Wisconsin, which served up an offer just yesterday afternoon.

"I know that they're a Big Ten school. That's one of the best conferences to be in," Lockett said. "They also went 11-3 and are No. 1 in the West (Division). They have to be a great football team to go 11-3 and be No. 1.

"I talked to (defensive coordinator) coach (Jim) Leonhard, and he told me their receivers coach (Ted Gilmore) liked what he saw on film and how I play. He told me they would like to offer me and will be back down to see me."

The rangy pass catcher has yet to pencil in a date, but knows of one visit destination for over the summertime, and that is Illinois.

"Me and (receivers) coach (Andrew) Hayes-Stoker have been building a good relationship," Lockett said. "I feel like coach Lovie and the rest of the staff are trying to create something great.

"They're recruiting some great players to create something great there."

Lockett is a long strider who does a great job of accelerating and picking up ground in a hurry. He tricks cornerbacks by possessing that deceptive speed to get behind the secondary, but also impresses with his ability to push off the line of scrimmage with a good burst.

Lockett reminds you of Steve Breaston with the way he covers a significant amount of ground.
