Scout breaks down new Penn State commit Bryce Effner, who we had a chance to see at The Opening Regional in Chicago last month.

Scouting Report:
Effner is a nice-sized kid. He measured 6-foot-5 1/2, 274 pounds at The Opening Regional in Chicago. On film, he shows good ability to bend that big frame, especially in the run game, which is where we see him as more comfortable and further along than his pass protection at the moment. In the run game, he has very good balance and drives defenders while keeping his feet. He does a nice job of finishing his blocks. He is not a killer in that department, but he plays to the whistle and gets guys on the ground. In pass pro, he has the natural feet and bend to be effective, he just needs to get stronger and polish his technique. In general, adding bulk and strength to his frame will be important in his development but that should not be a problem with his frame.

Overall:
Effner is a kid with good upside for the Nittany Lions. He is likely to benefit greatly from a redshirt year where he can get stronger and pick up more technique. At The Opening Regional, we saw his upside and we saw spots where he still has some things to work on, but his frame and ability to bend and move that frame is what makes him a legitimate Power 5 prospect and we like his ceiling.
