Two Offers and Counting for Florida-Based 2019 QB Brian Maurer

The first two scholarship offers are now on the table for 2019 Ocala (Fla.) West Port quarterback, Brian Maurer.

Brian Maurer, who tossed the pigskin for nearly 1,600 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore, is now squarely on the recruiting radar after scooping up offers from South Alabama and Florida Atlantic, respectively.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Maurer, who is also generating Power Five interest, straps up the pads for Ocala (Fla.) West Port.

"It's an amazing feeling knowing that all of the hard work I've put in has finally paid off and got my name out," Maurer said. "Hopefully there are many more to come. West Virginia is coming to see me Thursday, and Texas A&M called my coach earlier today (Tuesday)."

The 2018 prospect is forever grateful for each of the Division I opportunities that have came his way, but expects to leave his mark on some Power Five schools before it is all said and done.

"These offers came out of the blue," Maurer said. "They just showed up and I'm grateful they did. I have a couple of visits planned for over the summer to Oklahoma StateDuke and Florida."

Maurer is a smooth signal-caller who shows the mobility to evade pressure and make plays outside the pocket. He snaps the ball out of his hand in a hurry, and does a good job of squeezing the ball in when stretching the field.

The sophomore needs to tune up his delivery moving forward, but does a nice job of stepping into his throws and transferring weight to his lead leg. This is a confident kid who should reel in a stable of offers leading up to his junior season.

"My skill set consists of remaining calm and not panicking if the team sees I'm worried," Maurer said. "They're going to feed off of my energy and I have to keep the team up.

"I have to give it up to my QB coach and head coach for always keeping me calm, putting me in the right situations, and practicing the way we do to prepare."

Stay tuned to Scout for the latest developments in Maurer's recruitment.
