The first few offers are in for Elijah Shelton and the ball has started rolling on other fronts this spring evaluation period.

The three-star linebacker from Salt Lake City (Utah) Highland added Fresno State to his list this week and told Scout.com he's certainly got interest in the Bulldogs, with a visit likely to take place at some point this summer when he makes the rounds in California.

"I've got a lot of buddies that are getting an offer from Fresno State, so that's a plus because I'd like to go somewhere with some friends," Shelton said. "It was cool to have that California option and expanding. I already had Air Force in Colorado, so it's cool and exciting to get stuff outside of Utah.

"I talked to coach Ryan Grubb and he's way cool. He told me what I would be playing and what they had in mind for me, everything I really needed to know. They're looking at my for a mixed position. In the first couple years I'd get use to the linebacker spot and then work my way up to a hybrid. I haven't been up there but I definitely plan to."

Fresno State isn't the only California school set to draw a close look from the 6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect. Shelton said he has plans to camp with StanfordUCLA and USC this summer in hopes of opening some eyes.

"From June 20 to the end of the week I'll be out there for camps," Shelton said. "It will be Stanford first, then UCLA and then USC. Stanford I've been talking to quite a bit. They've been recruiting me at tight end more so than anything. I've talked to coach (Lance) Anderson a lot.

"I'm trying to get on UCLA and USC's radar by going to their camps, so hopefully those go well. They've been in contact through my coach a little bit."

Another program that has been expressing interest is Washington State, which dropped by last week.

"I've had a good conversation with the defensive line coach (Jeff Phelps) so hopefully that can continue," Shelton said.

Utah State and Southern Utah have offered as well.

"I'm just trying to find the best fit for me," Shelton said. "I'm not sure which school is going to do that for me, but I plan to take some unofficial visits and go see schools to get the vibe on campus."

As a junior last season, Shelton was credited with 24 total tackles, as well as 17 receptions for 268 yards and three touchdowns.
