ACC, Big Ten and SEC battling for South's fourth-ranked DT Rick Sandidge

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Four-star Concord (N.C.) defensive tackle Rick Sandidge was one of the top performers at The Opening Charlotte and he spoke with Scout about his recruitment.

Rick Sandidge is down to 11 schools.

In no order -- Ohio StateSouth CarolinaNorth Carolina, NC State, Michigan, Miami, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Florida, Florida State and LSU -- made the cut.

According to Sandidge, four are showing the most interest.

"Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida State are recruiting me hardest and it means a lot," Sandidge said. "All four schools treat me like family and I really like the people at those programs. All the schools have good traditions, too."

Out of all the coaches recruiting him, Sandidge said he has developed the strongest relationship with North Carolina offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic and Florida State running backs coach Jay Graham.

"North Carolina was the first school to offer me, so I've know coach Kap for a long time," Sandidge said. "He always lets me know that they really want me at North Carolina and I also really like his honesty."

"With coach Graham, he played at Concord, so that's cool. He's been telling me I could come in and compete for playing time and make an early impact."

One of his next visits will likely be Michigan.

"I'm excited to go somewhere I've never been and looking forward to meeting all the people," Sandidge said. "(Tight ends) coach (Greg) Frey is recruiting me and he's told me I'm one of their top defensive targets in the class.

"I also want to sit down with coach (Jim) Harbaugh. He's a great coach and I want to get to know him. And I want to learn more about the academics at the school."

Sandidge plans to take all five official visits and does not have a timeline for his commitment.
