East No. 12 DE John Morgan stands out at The Opening, D.C.; ACC, Big Ten visits set, decision coming

CLIFTON, Va. -- Defensive end John Morgan of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha in action at The Opening Regional at Centreville High. He set a trio of visits.

Defensive end John Morgan is a month away from a decision, and the Hyttsville (Md.) DeMatha standout has a trio of visits coming up.

The 6-foot-2, 248-pound Morgan will be at Pittsburgh on June 4, Virginia Tech on June 11 and Duke on June 16. He is also talking with Penn State and Maryland, both of which he visited in the spring.

Morgan added he would make a decision "either (the) first or second week of June," and given his performance at The Opening Regional at Centreville High, someone is getting a dynamic player on the edge.

In going against right and left tackles, Morgan earned his way into the "Final Five" competition with his strong effort. (Clips are in the video player at the top of the page.)

Morgan was quick at the snap and his flexibility was impressive. He was able to dip his shoulder and get around the corner without losing speed, and it made him hard to block. He was able to get around the edge, and he demonstrated his agility in feigning outside and then cutting inside. He exploded well up the field.

He needs to continue to work on his hands, and being quick in not allowing offensive tackles to engage him. He has quick feet, and if the offensive lineman does not hit him with an initial punch early, stopping him is very difficult.
