No. 6 DT and Maryland commit Austin Fontaine highlights at The Opening Regional

CLIFTON, Va. -- Maryland commit and Scout 100 defensive tackle Austin Fontaine in action at The Opening Regional at Centreville High.

A day after committing to Maryland, Scout 100 defensive tackle Austin Fontaine performed at The Opening Regional at Centreville High (clips in media play at top of page).

Fontaine, who plays at Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha, showed good explosion at the snap, power in getting up the field and a willing to battle through each play even if it did not start out well.

The 6-foot-3, 309-pound Fontaine used a swim move well, and he was able to disengage and make a secondary move when being blocked. He needs to be quicker with his hands to keep the offensive lineman from getting inside on him, but his strength and knowledge of technique helped him get loose.

He played low, and his strength was evident when he pressed the offensive lineman off. He is built for power, and should be a nose guard with the Terps because of his ability to eat up space in the middle and be a run stopper.

Another positive aspect with Fontaine is he kept working through a rep. Even when it looked like he was blocked, he kept churning and driving to finish the rep.
