The Gaffney standout is happy with his decision.
"I'm very excited about it," said the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Smith. "The opportunities Duke provides if football doesn't work out or after football, separated it from the other schools. I'm excited about my future and fully committed.
"At Duke, I can get a world-class education and chase my NFL dream. Plus, from the first day, they mad me feel like a priority and family. I stay in contact with the coaches all the time, too, and they have so much trust in me. They have also gained my trust and have my utmost respect."
Defensive backs coach Derek Jones recruited Smith for the Blue Devils and the two have developed strong relationship.
"We have a close relationship," Smith said. "He's told me I can be different and show people what's really important. He also told me I can bring a lot to the football program."
Smith is looking forward to playing for head coach David Cutcliffe.
"He's a great man and very, very wise," Smith said. "I can't wait to play for him. He's done a great job at Duke and will continue to do so."
