Maryland commit and No. 13 OG Evan Gregory displays strength at The Opening Regional

CLIFTON, Va. -- Maryland offensive guard commit Evan Gregory in action at The Opening Regional at Centreville High.

The pipeline from Hyattsville (Md.) Dematha to Maryland strengthened a few weeks ago when Scout 300 offensive guard Evan Gregory committed to the Terps.

A day after the 6-foot-4, 298-pound Gregory, the No. 13 guard in the 2018 class, made his announcement, he performed at The Opening Regional at Centreville High.

Gregory had a mixed day, but still found himself in the "Final Five." Consistency and patience were his two biggest issues, but both can be fixed with stronger technique. When he did not reach, he was in balance and sat well in a base. As a guard, his instinct was to drive block in the running game, so it does not fit well into a camp 1-on-1 pass protection drill.

Still, Gregory's initial punch was strong, and when it was targeted properly, it was hard to fight through. If he adds a bit of flexibility to get lower in his stance and remains patience, he has the feet and arm length to be a very good pass blocker.
