Three-star RB Jahmir Smith hopes to make decision this summer

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Sanford (N.C.) Lee County running back Jahmir Smith's scholarship offer list has surged to over 30 and he spoke with Scout at The Opening Charlotte about his recruitment.

Over the past few months, Jahmir Smith has been one of the hottest prospects in the South.

The Lee County standout has 30-plus offers, but there is a smaller group showing interest.

"The schools I'm in contact with the most are DukeNorthwestern and Clemson," Smith said. They're recruiting me hardest and it means a lot."

He gave a quick thought about each program.

Duke: "The coaching staff is really cooI," said the 6-foot, 195-pound Smith. "I also have a great relationship with (running backs) coach (Re'quan) Boyette and he always stays in touch."

Northwestern: "I went up there to visit recently and really enjoyed the trip. It was a nice trip and the coaches and other people I met were really cool."

Clemson: "Even though they haven't offered yet, I stay in contact with (running backs) coach (Tony) Elliott all the time, and we talk about life and things other than football."

What is next for Smith?

"I'll probably release my list of top schools after spring practice, but I'm not sure how many schools will be on the list.

"I'd like to make my commitment sometime in June. The main factors are going to be which school is the best fit academically and athletically for me."
