ACC, Big Ten and SEC programs among the suitors for DE Joseph Boletepeli

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage defensive end Joseph Boletepeli's recruitment exploded recently and he spoke with Scout at The Opening Charlotte.

Joseph Boletepeli's scholarship total is approaching 20.

Although numerous programs are pursuing him, there is a group recruiting him hardest.

"I'd say I've had the most contact with TennesseeLouisvilleWake ForestNC State and Maryland lately," said the 6-foot-3 1/2, 244-pound Boletepeli. "I have great relationships with coaches from those schools and they do a great job of communicating with me. It definitely means a lot that they're showing so much interest."

His most recent trip was Maryland.

"I enjoyed the visit and liked how everything was close together," Boletepeli said. "I had a chance to see the campus and facilities. I was also able to talk to the coaches.

"I spent the most time with (tight ends) coach (Pete) Lembo. He told me I could be a valuable piece to what they're doing and that I could contribute early. I also spoke with coach (D.J.) Durkin and it meant a lot that he took the time to talk to me. He told me he likes my size and I could make an early impact."

Where will he visit next?

"I'm going to visit Wake Forest sometime later this month," Boletepeli said. "I'm looking forward to seeing the campus and learning more about the academics. I also want to talk to the coaches and meet some of the players.

"I've been talking to (defensive line) coach (Dave) Cohen and (linebackers) coach (Brad) Sherrod. I like everything about them. They do a great job staying in touch and have a plan in place for me at Wake Forest."

Boletepeli hopes to narrow his list of schools before or during his senior season. He will likely make a commitment after the season.
