ACC, Big Ten Schools Deliver Offers to Florida-Based 2018 CB Shamaur McDowell

Minnesota and NC State are the latest schools to serve up offers to Shamaur McDowell, a 2018 three-star cornerback residing in Florida.

Shamaur McDowell previously labeled Iowa State as the clear front-runner, but has since took a step back with offers continuing to pour in, including ones from NC State and Minnesota, respectively.

McDowell, a three-star cornerback out of the 2018 class, is teamed up with coach Mark Kantor and Wesley Chapel (Fla.) Wiregrass Ranch.

"Iowa State and the others remain at the top of my mind as my recruitment picks up," McDowell said. "My family and I want to evaluate all of my options. Communication with coaches help me determine my value to them and the team.

"It is getting tough, but I do know that I will give my all wherever I commit to."

McDowell, who is just days removed from visiting Appalachian State, says Monday's offer from coach P.J. Fleck and the Golden Gophers is one that did not necessarily come out of the blue.

"I have been talking with the University of Minnesota for a couple of weeks," McDowell said. "The coaching staff wanted to get to know me and find out what type of person, player, and student-athlete I was.

"I am still learning more about Minnesota, and my family and I are planning an unofficial visit soon. I know they are looking to build a strong foundation and strong team."

The up-and-coming cornerback lived out his childhood in the Carolinas, so last week's offer from the Wolfpack certainly drew a smirk and grasped his attention.

"I have been talking with NC State for a while," McDowell said. "I was born and raised in North Carolina, so it feels good to see my home state showing interest. The coaching staff is amazing and the school atmosphere is great, too.

"NC State is trying to rebuild and bring in recruits that will help them win big. I like how they push the importance of education, family, and keeping God first."

If all goes as planned, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound McDowell will be journeying through a stable of college campuses once school is released for the summer.

"I have Central Michigan in June," McDowell said. "I am working on UCFMinnesota and Southern Mississippi."
