Recruiting Update with Three-Star OKPreps Safety Wayne Jones III

Scout caught up with Wayne Jones III to get the scoop on the three-star's double-digit offer list and where he currently stands with his recruitment.

Wayne Jones III, a 6-foot-0, 195-pound hard-hitting safety from Owasso (Okla.) is fired up about the start of spring football this week in the state.

"I can't wait to start hitting," Jones said.

"This year we are running a 4-2-5 and they moved me down to strong safety, so I ca be closer to the ball, make more tackles, and still play man defense on the slot. They will also put me back deep if they need me there. I am also playing some offense this year. I am pretty sure that if I keep working, keep my head on straight, and learn my plays that I have a good chance of playing both ways this year."

Jones has around 15 scholarship offers and he is currently sorting through his list. He does not have a firm date for when he would like to make his commitment, but he knows he wants to have it done before the start of his senior season.

"It will be good for me if I get all of the recruiting out of the way during the summer of after spring ball," Jones informed. "I can focus more on the Owasso Ram football team instead of what college I want to go to. I can give more attention to what is most important at the moment.

I think the top schools that are recruiting me he most are OSU (Oklahoma State), Kansas State, SMU, Memphis, and there are a bunch of schools that I still communicate with."

"The coaches impress me the most, because they are down to earth," Jones continued. "They are not like a lot of other schools, where the coaches seem stuck up sometimes, but these staffs are all real down to earth, 100 percent. They do not sugarcoat anything and my parents like them too and that is a big factor."

Jones will have schools heading through Owasso over the next couple of weeks and he spoke about two Power Five programs that plan to stop in and watch him practice.

"We even have more schools coming out this spring, and that is why I do not want to make my decision until afterwards, because I want to make sure that I am 100 percent with this school and this school only," Jones explained.

"Arkansas is one of them. I am really excited about them. The coach told me that he would be through here this week when we really start hitting. That is a big SEC school. Playing in the SEC you get to play a lot of top schools.

Then we have the Utah coming out and that is also a big-time school. It is in the Pac-12 and that's a DB's heaven, because that is a pass happy conference. They told me that they wanted to offer, but the coach told me he wanted to come out and see me personally."

Jones informed that he will graduate high school in December and be an early college enrollee.
